            Baseball falls to Ocean View 2-1 in CIF Title Game

The Boys baseball team ended their highly successful season on Saturday falling short in their bid to win a CIF Title. The boys lost to Ocean View High School 2-1 to finish the year 24-5-1. Congratulations to Coach Knott and his team for an entertaining and exciting season and we wish them luck next year as they seek to replicate what they accomplished this season.

To wrap up the year in Bonita Athletics, the Bearcats had 19 of a possible 21 teams qualify for CIF playoffs either as a team or for individual performances.

 Volleyball – Won Miramonte league and was a CIF Division 3 Finalist. They reached the first round of state playoffs.

Football – Made the first round of CIF playoffs

Cross Country – Both Boys and Girls won Miramonte league and Freshman Marissa Scott made it to State Finals

Girls Tennis – Won Miramonte league and had several girls compete in CIF prelims and finals

Field Hockey – Continues to grow with a young team returning next year

Boys Water Polo – Won Miramonte League and reached CIF Quarterfinals

Boys Basketball – Won Miramonte League and reached the CIF Quarterfinals

Girls Basketball – Second in Miramonte League and reached CIF Semifinals

Wrestling - Wrestling had 11 students qualify for CIF Prelims and Finals.

Girls Soccer – Made the First Round of CIF Playoffs

Boys Soccer – Finished fourth in Miramonte league missing playoffs by one goal

Girls Water Polo – Reached CIF Semifinals (and lost the best water polo game I have ever seen, falling short in 6 overtimes.)

Golf – Won Miramonte League and Senior Alex Eaton made it to CIF Masters

Boys Tennis – Finished 2nd in Miramonte league and had several players compete in CIF Prelims and Finals

Boys Track – Finished 2nd in Miramonte League, had several students compete at CIF Prelims and Finals; Junior Jabre Millon was CIF Champion in the Triple Jump

Girls Track – Finished 2nd in Miramonte League and had several students compete in CIF Prelims and Finals

Softball – Won Miramonte League and reached CIF Semifinals

Baseball – Won Miramonte League and reached CIF Finals

So all totaled BHS won 9 Miramonte League Titles, had 2 CIF Team Finalists, 1 CIF Individual Champion, 2 students compete at State Level playoffs, and 2 Teams reached the CIF Semifinals. Not a bad year if I do say so myself.

Congratulations to Ms. De Lang and the cheer and song squads for their performance over the weekend at their National Competition. The Varsity team placed 9th out of 30 schools in their division. The Freshman/JV squad placed 5th. Both teams were recognized with trophies that can be seen if you stop by Ms. De Lang’s room, 905.

Thanks to the tremendous support of the citizens of La Verne, Bonita High has begun planning for the construction of a new gymnasium. We are currently finalizing the plans and are preparing for submission. We are very excited to share a rendering what the new face of Bonita High will look like when it is completed:

LA VERNE - When Adriana Contreras took over as Bonita High School's volleyball coach in 2008, she didn't know how much she didn't know.

The question wasn't about volleyball for the former Garey High School and University of La Verne player who then coached for six years at La Verne. She was well-versed in how to play and coach volleyball.

But coaching high school was an entirely different story.
