Choir Wins Award

Congratulations to Mr. Helm and the BHS Choir program on their outstanding performance on their recent trip to Chicago.

The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers were victorious at the Heritage Festival of Gold held in Chicago this past weekend.  The Concert Choir was named the top large choir and the Chamber Singers the top Chamber Choir out of the 16 elite choirs from around the country that were invited to attend this festival.  Both choirs were invited to perform in the encore concert on the stage of Chicago Symphony Hall Monday evening and received standing ovations from the audience which consisted of all the festival participants as well as friends and families.

Bonita High School

RE-DESIGN THE BEARCAT LOGO!

With the construction of the new Bonita High School Gym scheduled to begin next fall, we would like to see a fresh new logo representing our mascot, the Bearcat.  The new gym will literally be a beacon unto the community with a back lit panel with the Bearcat logo on the front of the building.

As you design the logo remember that this is a symbol of the strength and perseverance of Bonita’s athletes, scholars and staff.  The image needs to be clean and clear so that it can be easily transferred to an embroidered design for shirts, sweats and caps.  It will be silk screened on to equipment, stationery, and clothing.  It will be embossed on stationery and certificates.  It will be painted on the gym wall and on the gym floor.  When the image is reduced it must maintain the integrity of the design.

Entries from current Bonita students as well as alumni are welcome.  All entries become the property of Bonita High School and the decision of the judges is final.  Artists are encouraged to include a secondary element such as a paw print that will complement their mascot.  Entries should be submitted to the principal’s office by May 14th.

SUBMISSION:  to fit no smaller than 8x10 no larger than 11x14, pen and ink, prisma pencil, tempra paint, acrylic paint, oil paint, gouache or digital format.

The Bonita High School Art Department continues to take extreme pride in the quality of art their students produce each year. In addition to the marvels of instrumental performances by the marching band at the annual La Verne Fourth of July Parade, fine art students were awarded high accolades at the Los Angeles County Fair.

Since 2006, the space to display student art at the Fair has been dramatically reduced. Annual submissions are rotated each year. The 2008 Ed Expo accepted student art in the area of jewelry, fine art printmaking and graphics. In these categories 112 entries were submitted from Mr. Harrison’s Jewelry classes and Ms. Castro’s Fine Art of Printmaking and Illustration and Design classes. These 112 submissions were judged and given 121 awards. Among the awards were; Best of Show, 2 Best of Division, 1 Thummer Award, 12 Best of Class, 2 Theme, and 44 First Place awards.
