You won't find anyone working harder or cheering harder than Bonita High School's Chole W.. The lefty turned herself from ordinary into one of the elite pitchers in the CIF-Southern Section in just a few years, earning a scholarship to West Texas A&M after leading the Bearcats to the Miramonte League title, and the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 semifinals. Wurst threw consecutive no-hitters in victories over Los Altos and Diamond Ranch, striking out a combined 25 in the process.

She allowed two hits or less in eight games, threw three one-hitters and struck out 10 or more 17 times, including a season-high 19 strikeout performance against St. Lucy's.
Wurst finished 19-4 with a 0.82 ERA and 277 strikeouts, and also was a big contributor offensively, batting clean-up and hitting .357.
She was selected the Miramonte League player of the year, was named to the CIF-SS Division 3 first team and for her efforts, has been selected the 2010 Tribune softball player of the year.
"She was the heartbeat of our team," Bonita coach Ken Carlson said. "The growth she experienced from last year to this year was tremendous.
"It wasn't just her pitching but her total leadership on and off the field. When we were down she was the one that brought everyone back up. She was a great vocal leader and leader by example, a rare combination these days."

Congratulations to Breeanna and Jacki for making First and Second team players of the year.

Player of the Year: Chloe W, Bonita, Sr.

First Team: Outfield: Breeanna S, Bonita, Jr.

Second Team: Infield: Jacki C, Bonita, Sr.

John Knott - Coach of the Year

Bonita greats were unable to do what Knott's team accomplished this year

LA VERNE - Bonita High School baseball coach John Knott listed their names and accomplishments with rapid fluidity.

Jiovanni Mier was an easy one; the Houston Astros made the shortstop the 21st pick of the 2009 draft. Center fielder Jeff Gelalich just started his 22nd game for a UCLA baseball team going strong in the College World Series.

First baseman Jason Plowman hit nine home runs as a freshman at Azusa Pacific University. And 2009 Miramonte League MVP Nico Calderaro was a first-team all-league pitcher at Mt. San Antonio College.

All were members of the Bonita class of 2009. Thus, none were members of the Bearcats baseball team Knott led to the school's first CIF final in 36 years.

Though a 2-1 loss to Huntington Beach Ocean View on June 5 left Bonita a couple runs short of its first CIF championship since 1951, a surging Bearcats program exceeded expectations after sustaining heavy losses, making Knott the Daily Bulletin's Coach of the Year.

After posting a 21-6 record and claiming his first league title at Bonita, Knott's fifth year at the helm was supposed to be a rebuilding one. Four games into the season, the apparent confirmation of that was achieved in the form of a 19-3 loss to Claremont, the eventual last-place team in the Baseline League.
